How to Build a Whole Home Audio System with Sonos

CONNECT WIRED, IN-WALL, AND WIRELESS SPEAKERS INTO ONE SYSTEM

So, you want to listen to music at home. Maybe you’re putting away laundry, relaxing with a book, then making a bite to eat in the kitchen. You have a few options for your background tunes.

You could listen with headphones. But you’ll have to keep your phone in your pocket, and if wired earbuds accidentally snag on a drawer, your device will fall to the floor. Well, maybe you own wireless earbuds. But if someone calls your name from across the house, it will look like you’re ignoring them.

Option two: you turn on your smart speaker in the kitchen and tell Alexa to play The Cure. But as you walk to the bathroom, the patio, or any other room, suddenly you can’t hear the music anymore.

The solution? A whole-home audio system that flows through your entire Prosper, TX house. You won’t have to close yourself off with headphones or stay restricted to one room. Sonos, the speaker manufacturer, makes wireless multi-room music simple. We’ll share below how you can sync your existing speakers and new Sonos devices to one system.

WIRELESSLY GROUP YOUR SONOS SPEAKERS

Through the Sonos app, you can merge two or more Sonos devices to play the same song or podcast simultaneously. From there, you’ll group speakers into rooms so that you can select the living room and lower its speakers right from your phone.

To add a speaker to your Sonos system, you’ll open the Sonos app, tap System>Add Product. You’ll be provided next steps to connect your speaker. Now with more than one speaker, you can create a group, syncing your speakers to one unit.

ADD ANALOG SPEAKERS TO YOUR SONOS SYSTEM

If you already own wired analog speakers, you don’t need to toss them out for your new whole-home system. They can be integrated into your wireless Sonos network, too. The Sonos Amp lets you connect four speakers (with an impedance of 8 ohms). You’ll insert the speaker wire into the Amp, and then connect the Amp to your Sonos system like a new speaker. Now you can control your old speakers through the Sonos app, too!

MERGE IN-WALL AND IN-CEILING SPEAKERS

Want to enjoy your ‘60s rock or new pop playlists without the clutter of speakers in every corner? For a simplistic aesthetic, Sonos’ architectural speakers can be installed into your walls and ceiling then connected to the same wireless Sonos network. A professional installer can help you discreetly add speakers into your walls and ceiling for a clean finish and impeccable audio.
