5 Things You Didn’t Know You Can Do with Sonos
LESSER-KNOWN FEATURES OF SONOS WHOLE HOME AUDIO
Imagine your entire house as a single sound system.
With Sonos, you can wirelessly build a network of speakers and subwoofers (pictured above) that play everywhere from the bathroom to the living room. And it’s all controlled through the Sonos app.
Many people don’t know how impressive high-end audio is until they hear it. If you’ve only used an Amazon speaker in your house, you don’t know what it’s like to soundtrack daily life with rich, robust audio.
Whether you’re entirely new to Sonos or have one of their speakers already, we’ll show you all you can do with your system. Our Frisco, TX, customers love their Sonos whole home audio and make the most of it with the following features. We hope you will too!

1. ADD YOUR ANALOG SPEAKERS TO THE SONOS SYSTEM
If you already own hi-fi speakers, there’s no need to ditch them to wirelessly control whole-home audio with Sonos. Even if you’re using grandpa’s decades-old speakers, you can still add them to your wireless Sonos system.
How? The Sonos Amp device can power four speakers through a speaker wire, which then syncs to the Sonos system. The wireless network recognizes The Amp as a new speaker to control through the app.
2. CALIBRATE YOUR ROOMS’ ACOUSTICS WITH TRUEPLAY
People are often disappointed when they bring high-end speakers home, and they don’t sound like they did in the demo room. But the surfaces and walls in your room can interfere with sound frequencies, causing distortion or echoing. Acoustic treatments usually help with this, but Sonos has found a new way to address the problem: Trueplay.
Trueplay is a spatially-aware feature on the Sonos app that measures how sound reflects against furniture, floors, and walls in your home. Trueplay gathers acoustical information through your phone’s microphone and, after three minutes, will tune your speakers to sound their best.
3. ENJOY THE PERFECT VOLUME LEVEL WITH NIGHT SOUND
Everyone’s been there—you’re trying to watch a movie while the kids or your spouse is sleeping, and you find yourself turning the volume up and down over and over. Action scenes are way too loud, but you can’t hear what the characters are saying once you turn it down.
Sonos speakers’ Night Sound feature tweaks your TV’s audio so that dialogue is discernable while reducing loud sound effects. To turn on Night Sound, click the ‘More’ tab at the bottom of the Sonos app, tap ‘the TV,’ then hit the moon icon.
4. USE YOUR RECORD PLAYER
The recent boom of vinyl sales has proven that records are far from obsolete, and this is true for Sonos systems, too. The Sonos Play:5, Sonos Amp, and Sonos Port have line-in ports to connect any turntable. Sonos even manufactures their own record player, the Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB Turntable so that you can enjoy the warm crackle of albums both new and old across your home.
5. CREATE A PLAYLIST FROM MULTIPLE SOURCES
Let’s say your partner uses Apple Music while your music library is on Spotify. Or perhaps you have live performances downloaded off a CD or online, stored in a physical hard drive or iTunes library. You can queue up songs across multiple platforms through the Sonos app. It doesn’t matter where the songs are; listen to them all without switching between apps every time it’s time to change the song. Since more than one person in the house can access your Sonos system, you’re free to play any music services you’d like.
